➤ "WAZZARA uses all the elements from the far north and quite a few Doom and Black interruptions to create an interesting sound environment... these sounds are able to appeal to the subconscious... undoubtedly a masterpiece that touches the listener on a deep, emotional level."
(Metal Underground AT)

➤ "… I like that it has a Black Metal sound but it's not too harsh … album art is really cool, I like the concept of life, death, and re-birth being symbolized by a wheel; it's very Buddhist … lyrics were mostly understandable which is always a plus for me … a really unique ambiance most groups wish they could achieve … voice is great and the rest of the band is really talented …"

➤ "... deals with transience, death and the vanity of existence (fittingly the cover artwork) ... it is therefore not surprising that 'Ombreine' turned out a bit darker than the majority of the tracks on 'Cycles' ... features a clear, differentiated and at the same time powerful overall sound ... strong release!"
(Folkmetal AT)

➤ "... Songwriter Barbara knows how to compose really touching pieces that don't need to hide from other scene greats of Doom Metal. Also her vocals, from ethereal to guttural, hit the mark again in the three new songs."
(Der Hörspiegel)

➤ "… deserves to be listened to over and over again to identify the different musical layers it contains. I like the transitions between Doom and Black Metal that go from the most subtle to the most extreme, enveloping the listener in deep, dense and even emotional musical atmospheres …"
(La Magia Absalón)

➤ "... I like the interplay between the clean vocals and the guitar work ... the doomy sound rolls forward amidst clouds and grey skies ... Barbara's vocals are sad and plaintive, while the harsh vocals are angry ... a hint of tears and regret ... the harsh vocals carry the sound, which is at once bleak and hateful ..."
(Metal Temple)
➤ "... the bright, clear voice of Barbara Brawand creates a very pleasant flair ... this band has identity ... one may be curious how it will go on ..."

➤ "… if after this statement of EP no label approaches the band, I finally no longer understand the music world … the ever-changing WAZZARA have found themselves as a quintet, reached yet another higher creative level and thus opened a new chapter in their career - and with a bang … an intoxicating experience for all the senses …"
(Metallosophy)
➤ "... the landscapes explored come with a subtle, dramatic feel, with elegant lead vocals playing a major role in adding a softer and borderline-worldly aspect to the overall atmosphere ... occasional bursts into harsh vocals are arguably the most important dramatic effect used throughout ... should be given a listen if you fancy a dark and otherworldly, captivating take on atmospheric Extreme Metal ..."
(The Viking In The Wilderness)
➤ "… absolutely recommended … you need to know this band …"
(World Of Metal)
➤ "… fucking brilliant … a genuinely stunning release …"
(Smorg)
➤ "I don't often deal with EPs lately, preferring to focus on LPs, but for WAZZARA I gladly make an exception because the previous album, 'Cycles', was among my favourite listens in 2021 … there is perhaps a greater veil of darkness in these three tracks, communicated already from the artwork … the songs captivate, transport, speak of the inevitability of fate and the force of nature overpowering that of man … if you already liked 'Cycles', I see no reason why you should not also enjoy this ‚Ombreine‘, in anticipation of a future full length …"
(The Murder Inn)
➤ "… unique sound … very refreshing … displays incredible vocals, hypnotic guitar and incredible drumming, which all culminate in a spectacular climax …"

➤ "... use of very different vocal styles ... considerable richness ... high growth in songwriting skills ... like black thunderstorms ... massive walls of guitars ... healing, soothing, broadly flowing streams ... ancient healing spells in long-forgotten language (Brawand is also a studied medievalist in addition to her artistic activities) ... stirring, nature-mystical songs ... formative spiritual-magical touch ..."

➤ "If you are looking for drawers in this case, you need a large piece of furniture. Because a drawer alone does not do justice to the diversity of the Swiss in the slightest. Designations like Post Metal or Doom Metal are at most the wood from which the furniture is carved. But in the drawers hide many more treasures ... a gloomy-idyllic setting. When Dool meets Avatarium and stages an Anathema piece with Alcest, it comes pretty close to WAZZARA ..."

➤ "... surprisingly clear and coherently produced ... in every song new soundscapes, above which always the vocals of Barbara Brawand are enthroned and determine the action ... somewhere between the styles of Cellar Darling, Alcest and Cult Of Luna ... journey from reality up to the moon, in which especially dreamy Metal fans should enjoy ..."

➤ "… a mix of Folk, Metal, Rock, Psychedelic and Alternative Rock with sidesteps to dreamy, moody soundscapes, related to Mother Earth … covers the wide spectrum of music styles of the band pretty well … it will take you on a journey to your deeper inner self, when enjoying it on a good headphone set …"

➤ "… magical and dark melodies … fantastic debut album … shows how much potential the band has … I can totally picture WAZZARA playing with bands like Alcest or Cellar Darling … can’t wait to see what they have for us in the future."
(Tempelores)
➤ "… have an unique way of delivering their music … an interesting album … the moods, the guitars, the voices and all …"
(Metal Addicts)
➤ "... totally mesmerised by it ... imagine a cross between the Dutch The Gathering at the time of Anneke and the French Alcest ... the wonderful voice of Barbara, showing all her creative flair and skills between evolutions, high notes, vocals to an unexpected growl/scream .... fascinating and enveloping atmosphere that immediately draws us in ... try to close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the flow of the music, as the album has a short duration and flows very well ... with an excellent cover version of Type 0 Negative's 'Wolf Moon' ... an album of pure emotion, and I listen to it while watching the first snow of November fall out of the window … I have shivers of joy … I almost press repeat …"
(The Murder Inn)
➤ "... a lot of variety ... alternating harder with softer songs again and again ... mostly very powerful, but through the varied vocals different emotional states and moods are transported very well ... so who likes it a bit mystical and atmospheric, should risk an ear here ..."

"visûne" is part of the Swiss blackgazer’s EP "Ombreine", released in April 2023. For the visualization, the band teamed up with the creators of eyedo.media.
Singer Babs explains about the lyrical background of "visiûne":
"The song unravels the tale of a spirit silenced and constrained, burdened by the weight of tradition. It resonates with the resilience of those who have fought against the currents of conformity, seeking to break free from the shackles that bound them. 'visiûne' stands as a reminder that the pursuit of unfettered self-expression knows no bounds and is dedicated to the enduring spirit of those who, against all odds and impending persecution, dared to dream and create."
With their very own version of "Guggisberglied" WAZZARA can touch deeply and lastingly. A Swiss folk song first mentioned in 1741. Originally scored in Bernese German (one of the Swiss idioms), it tells of a lost, unrequited love.
Singer Barbara reveals about "Guggisberglied":
"This song is very dear to me - I've carried it inside me since I was a child. Its melody exerts a strong magical, irresistible force on me, which we wanted to emphasize with the new arrangement."
At the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, the profound band recorded three new songs, which will be released as EP "Ombreine" on April 30, 2023.
Like the water, which sometimes appears quietly dreamy, sometimes wildly roaring, you can experience the formation live today near and far.
In addition, and since the beginning of WAZZARA history, Barbara shows up here and there with her ethereal songs also as a WAZZARA solo performance act.
Taking initial inspiration from the natural poetry of water in motion, enrapt listeners have found themselves moved by the otherworldly, ethereal and magical offerings of Swiss-based songwriter Barbara Brawand since 2015.
A show quickly followed in early 2020, alongside Grift and Wolcensmen; the first and last to grace the stage before a long and terrible silence descended over the concert industry.
Nevertheless, instead of allowing weeds to choke the banks of creativity, WAZZARA has continued to wind its course and met the year’s end having grown even stronger, composed an entirely new set list and become a full band:
Barbara Brawand (vocals, guitar), Mäsi Stettler (guitar), George Necola (bass) and Julia Kapp (live session drums).
The now initiated writing process for WAZZARA's first full-length album led to exploration of wider musical horizons, incorporating spellbinding, doomy riffs into the EP’s legacy of melancholic, dreamy and celestial soundscapes.
A moon motif nurturing untamed, sacred femininity has also been woven into spells for healing old wounds.
Inspired by nature’s infinite wandering phases, "Cycles" praises the end that is always a beginning.
