"… the third album is the album of maturity … it's been that way for many, many bands and, apparently, OVERTURES can not escape this rule … crafting in this 2016 a disc, nothing short of perfect, a nice Power-Heavy product that will appeal not only to lovers of kind, but music lovers in general."

"To summarize the new OVERTURES album , 'Artifacts' for me this year is the most complex, best composed Power Metal album I've ever heard … it has it all, a love for bands like Stratovarius , Helloween or just Sonata Arctica … the album's greatest strength is that they do not want to copy anyone … a Power / Heavy Metal emerges that is unique, yet draws from others … good work and any number of tools in a separate masterpiece, which was beautifully shaped note for note by the Italian craftsmen."

"OVERTURES have made the center once again … and I'm sure this "Artifacts" will remain among the best ever releases of 2016!"

"With 'Entering The Maze' OVERTURES set a very high level, and getting back to that level seemed impossible ... but with some improvements on the sound and style, 'Artifacts' got on an even higher level ... praiseworthy!"
9 / 10
"… no doubt that the band reached its peak with "Artifacts" … all that was sent and / or at least demonstrated on its predecessor here comes alive … the sound proposal shows balance, cohesion and much pomp! Okay produced and without exaggeration … singer Michele Guaitoli imposes its lines with a consistent and tasteful interpretation, which only makes the band earn points … just listen to tracks like 'Artifacts', 'Profiled', 'Unshared Worlds' , the epic 'Teardrop' and wild 'Angry Animals' to prove these elements … a tasteful disk that does not invent anything, but adds a lot."

"… these Italian, although they assign to Melodic Metal, make more … not that the band press for originality, but it is much more than speed, melody, bass and vocals …"

"The combination of traditional / classic and modern they are doing incredibly well … then I just repeat my thoughts on the album cover!"
4 / 5
"Michele Guaitoli is a great vocalist and reminds me of both Geoff Tate and Roy Khan and as for the rest of the band members themselves; not much can be said except for absolutely brilliant … the production and mixing really come across like a well finished product instead of being over polished and the flowing and transition between heavy riffs, leads, and melodic passages in the album is working perfect … the balance and the variation in all the songs makes that you most likely will listen to them many times … I don't really dislike anything about this album … these guys are now probably among my favourite Metal/Prog bands of today and absolutely worth checking out!"

"… eleven songs, very colorful … the duration of the album is high because you exceed the fifty-seven minutes of music … you will find a lot of interesting things, both in terms of style that the emotions aroused level … the matrix, the framework is to power and of this kind we find in almost all the classic features that will repeat for the last time: double bass and vocals that travels over medium high register … missing keyboard / guitar duels and the donut would round with the hole, but no … no duels! And it is precisely the absence of key-guitar duels that differentiates and personalizes this band in the sea of Power Metal … it is a "Repentance" demonstration where these elements are set well right from the start, in which Michele Guaitoli juggles well giving us the first really inspired interpretation … his singing style, very personal, strikes us immediately and you can bring to a Tobias Sammet, but with much greater say, combined with a vibrato that reminds us of Fabio Lione …"

"For OVERTURES, 'Artifacts' is another fine album of creative and engaging Progressive Power Metal, displaying both their ever increasing musical talent and maturity … recommended."

"More than suggested album, where you can find songs, songwriting, emotions and touching feelings with a strong acoustic and emotional impact. Another proof that when music is well done still exists, in Italy too, and that there is no constant need to look for it somewhere else, when we have that kind of bands close to our home. Absolutely recommended album, this 'Artifacts', and absolutely recommended band: OVERTURES."

"The fact is that "Artifacts" is an extremely interesting album all the way … this record is so difficult to be categorized; it includes a classic Metal sound in it, strong progressive 'touches', big melodies, great guitar work and a 'modern' Metal approach that makes it a must have for each and every single fan of the Metal scene in general."

"Die Bühnenerfahrung als Support von Bands wie zum Beispiel Secret Sphere und Threshold drücken den Kompositionen auch einen marginalen Stempel auf, so dass man mit den vier Mannen durchaus rechnen muss … starker Output …"

"… the band is clearly a competent and professional act that manages to get quite a lot right here which is highly enjoyable … the riff-work, there’s plenty to like about the way this shifts so effortlessly from tight, deep chugging to galloping, mid-tempo rhythms that is wrapped up in gorgeous melodic rhythms that contain a glorious sheen over the music …"

"There are records that deserve to go directly to the listeners' ears without receiving reviews because they are "products of excellent quality." I do this premise to announce the new work OVERTURES, active band for more than ten years in the Italian metal scene and beyond … as a whole, I think 'Artifacts' is a purchase recommended because it is taken care of in every way, from the beautiful cover, to production … hats off to a group that is committed and knows how to adapt to the times without forgetting its origins."

"OVERTURES confirmed a beautiful reality in the Italian Power Metal and even internationally … 'Artifacts' is … certainly among the best of 2016 …"
80 / 100
"The sound of OVERTURES is always very modern, although there are references to the masters of classic Progressive Metal, Dream Theater in the first place … even 'My Refuge' insists on melodic passages, making it among the most songs you can store on the first listen, while a song like 'Angry Animals' recalls the Melodic Power Metal in most direct and immediate way, enriched by some the most sought after intermission … also noteworthy is the long 'Teardrop' with its orchestral passages, to emphasize the great variety of the band's sound, able to touch in ten minutes so many different registers, summarized the ideal of a very varied record, but always consistent … really really interesting … a big step forward …"

"The band blatantly mixes melodic Prog with Power Metal, injecting some Gothic Metal to boot … best described as something like Nightwish meeting Arrayan Path with a stout handful of Avantasia … should you buy the record? If you like a quirky Progressive Power Metal full of melodic hooks and turns, never leaving you bored at any moment, go for it … if you are not sure, give it a try anyway … they are good, you know … and we got ourselves a contender for the Top 10 list of 2016."

"… we are faced not only with the Melodic Metal, but also with Progressive Metal , Power Metal and even Hardrock … in the choruses , always very melodic, shoots the voice of vocalist Michele Guaitoli for a resemblance to Bruce Dickinson, even if only for a few seconds … even the songwriting sometimes remembers on Iron Maiden and even Europe … but OVERTURES create a different symphonic environment and quality …"

"Hot Album! The entire album stays on very high levels, with a special mention to the over 10-minutes suite 'Teardrop'. A great album that defines OVERTURES as a very relevant band to be followed with interest!"

"... the thrilling keyboard playing as well as the vocal melodies causing trance are part of the experience this album offers ... the die hard fans of the genre will surely enjoy this piece of Metal."
8 / 10
"'Artifacts' flows smoothly along all of its 11 tracks … making it well balanced between pieces pulled over as "Profiled" or "New Dawn, New Dusk", more reasoned tracks by winning melodies as the beautiful title track or "My Refuge" and long suites as "Teardrop" … nothing was left to chance and the result is a fully enjoyable, hard in every respect … a work that confirms all the good sported by the band in the past and raises them to another level, that will certainly increase the plethora of OVERTURES admirers."

"'Artifacts is a record that in many places has some good ideas and some really interesting textures, which often are able to overshadow the critical issues that, although not negligible, are not so heavy for this beautiful work … I regret, however, could not let such a work enters the 80+ Heavy Metal Heaven … all the songs are pearls and they are memorable from start to finish … there is potential in these four boys."

"The new work, mastered in the Gate Studios in Germany , between the walls of which has worked with people of the caliber of Avantasia, Edguy and Epica is a good example of various Prog Metal … very melodic, sometimes by dramatic look … OVERTURES use the weapon of melody and rhythmic Hard Rock very well, managing to make its personnel and extremely fascinating work."

"The band sounds compact and precise … with a tough rhythm section but varied … of all the components stand out technically guitarist Mark Falanga and the singer Michele Guaitoli, whose respective performances, however, are actually cross and opera delight, as even executions are too adhering to a sort of imaginary list of features to have in a given musical movement."

"What is it with the Italians at the moment? Another month and another batch of quality Metal releases land on the doormat … if you ask the artist however, success in their home county is still lacking with the more traditional Italian sounds as well as Pop music still diving the saes numbers … everything about the band presents a solid, professional, classy image and their musicianship is second to none … they would be the perfect mid-afternoon band at festivals such as Masters Of Rock."
"The listening experience completed by choirs and string instruments will stay with you long after the album concludes, and will be more than enough to tide you over until the next album."
(Dave Wolff - Autoeroticasphyxium Zine)
"… 'Artifacts', and we repeat it again, is a class record of a top band that perfectly blended elements from several different Metal to Hard Rock styles … an intense, heartwarming and beautiful whole … without more so a must for fans of good old school Heavy to Power Metal, with a high sing-along and headbanging content … impressed!"
"The songs are compositionally-sound, with some decent writing by a band who know their style and their audience inside out … these tracks are quite memorable and catchy in places, with stirring refrains and plenty of upbeat melodies to enjoy … I like a good Heavy Metal album, and with Artifacts Overtures have produced quite an enjoyable feast of sugary ear-candy."
(Bad Black Unicorn)
"From the opening bars of ‘Repentance‘ the maturity of the band is obvious, both from the musicianship through to the production… title track ‘Artifacts‘ is enjoyable … together with the following track ‘Gold‘ it probably rates as one of my favourites on the album … pounding drums, wailing guitars and a bass line fit to wobble your drink off the table … it’s everything that Progressive Metal should be … to sum up, certainly an album worth checking out and I shall be checking out their previous two releases into the bargain!"
"Apart from any other remarkable facts, which undoubtedly directly earn interest is the moving theatrical interpretation of the frontman and the natural melodies of titles such as "Gold", "As Candles We Burn", "Teardrop" and "Savior"."
"… eine Schwachstelle findet sich nicht … die Songs sind eingängig aber aufgrund des intelligenten Songwritings auch nach x-fachem Hören interessant … die Krönung kommt dann mit dem über 10-minütigen Song „Teardrop“ … Klasse! Power Metal-Fans, Progmetaller, Traditionalisten, hier können und sollten wirklich viele zugreifen. Es lohnt sich!"
"This year's OVERTURES sound more meaningful and inspiring than ever … this is because their fourth release offers spectacle, vision and skill in composing something unusual and unique … just think that if you ask what does it "sounds like" the answer is: "nothing"."
(Rock 'n Roll Monuments)
"Italy's OVERTURES; a band infusing the Power Metal theatrics of Kamelot and the progressive intricacy of Dream Theater … the music has all the flair of power and the complexity of Prog, but there is an added heaviness to give the music that extra kick."
(Script The Darkness)
"… elegant and tasteful is what breathes every bit of this, the third album of OVERTURES … they are defined as Melodic Heavy Metal but add touches of Progressive Metal that at times reminiscent of 80s Queensryche with some Power Metal … moments of "My Refuge" make me think that vocalist Michele Guaitoli has watched Geoff Tate with interest, especially during the first 'Operation Mindcrime' … the most complex moment they bring with the 10 minutes of the epic composition "Teardrop" with orchestral elements and some cinematic touch … choral work is bold … awesome … magnificent disk … a group that knows how to mix influences and give a distinctive character to its music."
(Made In Metal)
"The progressive and epic dimension of their songs is exactly what comes out from the album of Italians and specifically the continuous variations of their sound, with such a way so that it does not tire you … their professionalism and experience appears in their entire work and I would suggest the fans of the genre to listen to them with great attention!"
"Without a doubt the amazing metal band OVERTURES, have crafted an epic release with ARTIFACTS, their third album … chock of memorable hooks and instant classic metal songs, this is the album to buy above all others … this is Progressive Power Metal at its finest … my personal favorite is the title song "Artifacts" … just a hands down pure Metal powerhouse … there is such a distinctive soundscape coming from these musicians … look no further than OVERTURES if you need a daily Power Metal fix … they are one of only a handful of bands to watch for 2017!"
